Visit the city of lakes – Udaipur!!

What comes in your mind when you think of Rajasthan? Is it deserted regions or the royals who ruled for centuries!! Well let us welcome you to the Venice of East – Udaipur, which is in the state of Rajasthan, India. This city is surrounded by Aravali range of mountains and with 7 lakes. So if you wish to visit Udaipur from Delhi via road it would take you around 10-12hours to reach. We would suggest flying would be more convenient, which only takes an hour, if you wish to save some time and energy. Also Udaipur can be broadly covered max in 3 days. In this blog we would mention the must visit places in Udaipur.

Udaipur is a city of love, and also if you wish to do nothing and just intend to chill near the lakes gazing sunrise and sunset it’s absolutely worth. We strongly believe exploring this wonderland will make you awe with the Rajput era. Udaipur is surrounded by 7 lakes but only 5 of them namely Fateh Sagar, Lake Pichola, Swaroop Sagar, Rang Sagar and Doodh Talai holds tourist attractions. This city is not only about lakes but comes with abundance of historical palaces, art, culture, royal hotels and everything you need. This is a place you need to visit atleast for once in your lifetime and we assure you this would be one of your best travel treasure.

Travelling around Udaipur city is really easy. But the best we found  is to walk alongside the narrow lanes and discovering the beauty on foot. Ola, Uber and local Taxis are easily available for distant travel.

Places in Udaipur you shouldn’t miss :-

Udaipur City Palace

You can only feel our state of mind once you enter the royal gate of Udaipur City Palace. The main entrance is through the triple – arched gate which is called the Tripola. This palace is situated at the bank of Lake Pichola. So be ready to get the best of your highness feelings. Once you enter the main gate you would find carpets of multiple courtyards and gardens. The entire city palace is huge and painted white with best of architectural design, sculpture, exclusive painting, antiques etc which are just stunning remains from the ancient era.

  • You can also take a guided tour inside the City Palace if you wish to know everything in detail about the ancient history or you can also prefer going around by yourself and explore on your own as we did. Everything inside has additional information in writing in English so it’s not very difficult to understand.
  • Visit the Museum: You can also visit the City Palace Museum inside the premises itself but it’s chargeable. So make sure you check your priorities before you entre(we didn’t go inside).
  • At the backside of the palace in a walk for 5mins you can enjoy the wonderful view of Lake Pichola and spend some quality time watching the sun go down, choosing a  corner table at any cafes of many

Take a boat ride at Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is a manmade lake which is surrounded by hills, palaces, temples and even some bathing ghats. This lake is one of the most attractive tourist destination and we would recommend you to take a boat ride in Lake Pichola in the evening and enjoy the sun going down and changing its color from orange to pink to grey.  That would be a stunning view watching the city lighting up for the next dawn.

Visit Lake Palace or Jag Niwas

The Lake Palace itself holds an amazing view which stands right in between Lake Pichola. This Lake Palace was built by Maharana Jagat Singh, which is now converted into luxury hotel and resort.

Saheliyon Ki Bari

Saheliyon Ki Bari which means garden of companions. It is approximately 4kms away from Udaipur City Palace. Well this place might not attract you the most but yes you can definitely explore different things right? This place was designed by the king Sangram Singh II for his wife with beautiful gardens all around where the queen could spend time with her friends or Saheli’s.

Bagore Ki Haveli

Bagore Ki Haveli is just nearby to city palace, maybe 10mins of walking or less facing one of the ghat of Lake Pichola. It was the residing palace of Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore and hence the name Bagore Ki Haveli made its mark. This haveli is now converted into a vintage museum with some antique collections. We had a plan of visiting this place in the evening for the musical and folk dance show that happens almost daily. Guys if you ever visit Udaipur at least reserve your one evening for this show. It’s one of the amazing live show  we watched – so colourful, so cheerful all around!! Speechless!!
