Set your foot at the Island of Romance

This island nation has always been on our “bucket list” for long and finally we made it at the year end of 2022. We have fantasized staying at the water villas, going for some candlelit dinners, taking romantic barefoot strolls along the beach, and really wanted to make our stay extravagant. We had the best time in Maldives, rejuvenating our honeymoon days 8 years back.

Leave your footprints at the Tropical Wonderland

The Maldives conjure up images of pristine beaches and luxurious bungalows on the water, where guests can enjoy marine life through glass floors of the room and jump into the ocean even from their balcony and paddle out in the warm shallows and interact with deep-sea wildlife. Experience the spectacular colours of the ocean’s wildlife and corals, or swim with dolphins, turtles, and sharks and create the tropical memories of a lifetime!

Best time to travel

November to April is the best time to visit the Maldives. While January- March are the driest months hence making it the shoulder season. Rainy season starts from May to October and this is considered to be the worst time to visit Maldives. We went in the month of December (still it rained at times) which was actually crazy. Also it gave us hard time to find great deals and finalize the bookings with hotels because most of them were already pre booked for the wedding season. We would suggest if you’re planning Maldives anytime from November-February at least make your reservations prior 3-4 months.

Currency

The currency in the Maldives is Rufiyaa. 1 USD is equivalent to 15.4 Maldivian Rufiyaa.

Languages Spoken

English, Japanese, Dutch, Russian, Chinese are widely spoken over the islands in Maldives. So communicating won’t be an issue.

Stay at the Water Pool Villa at “The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives”

The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives is a 45-minute seaplane journey from Male International Airport followed by a 10-15 minute speedboat ride to the resort. All you need is to provide flight details, at least 4 days prior to arrival so that the hotels representatives can schedule/escort your arrival and departure timings accordingly which are subjected to seat availability of the seaplanes. This was our first time flying experience via seaplane, while the Ariel views were breathtaking but the flight was really noisy.

This boutique resort is a unique blend of relaxation, socializing, perfect for a romantic escape, getaway with friends, or family vacation.

Experiencing the Water Villas : Review of The Standard Maldives

The Standard offers 8 kinds of rooms. We stayed at Ocean Overwater Villa with Private Pool. It had a large bed, sitting area, bathroom with bathtub and shower, and a private infinity pool with sun loungers overlooking the sea. The villa had all the comforts like WiFi, free drinking water, coffee and tea and daily cleaning services.

Dining at The Standard : Review of The Standard Maldives

There are 4 types of restaurants on site offering lunch, dinner and snacks. Their main restaurant called Kula offers a buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner definitely one of the best buffets we had after long. The spread was just perfect with aromas from Local, International and European cuisines!

We also tried their local À la carte Maldivian cuisine at Guduguda restaurant, which was incredible! If the weather is favourable you can also enjoy their wide range of seafood grill/ barbecue at the BBQ shack. Choose Joos Cafe for high tea or for refreshments. After dinner hang at the bar and enjoy a drink and (sometimes live) music too.

If you go gaga over pool breakfast, you can pre book it from the resort with an additional cost of 65 USD per person.
