Go for the Oj Pejeta Game Drive

We directly drove to Ol Pejeta from Nairobi which took approx. 3 hrs. depending on traffic. We entered by the Rongai gate towards the east end of Nanyuki town as reaching Ol Pejeta wasn’t so difficult. All we had to do, was to turn on the GPS and we were good to go.

Note- make sure you are driving a 4wd car if you wish to go for self-game drive at Ol Pejeta without hiring any safari vehicle.

Start early as much as possible in the morning which is the perfect hour to watch animals. The main gate opens at 7am. We choose to stay inside the conservancy at Serena sweet waters, however if you are staying somewhere else outside, try reaching the main gate during the opening hours.

Ol Pejeta is a home for African big 5 and there are huge possibilities you can see most of them, as game drives are solely on pure luck which also needs a lot of patience. One might see something extraordinary while others might return with disappointment. So we would suggest don’t go with any high hopes.

We weren’t that lucky enough to see all the big5 (lion, elephant, leopard, cape buffalo & rhino) however managed to see some of them too. We almost stared by 7am and the opening was pretty decent where we could see herd of gazelles. Moving on we saw zebras, cape buffalo’s, giraffes, lion, baboons, rhinos, elephants, birds, etc.

Go for the night game drive in Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya

To go for night game drive here was our top priority. One important information about the night safari at Ol Pejeta is that we stayed at Serena Sweet waters which is inside the conservancy. However, night game drives are only possible if you are staying there. By 6pm the main gate of the conservancy closes and no outside vehicles are allowed inside the park. So it’s really mandatory to stay inside the conservancy if you wish to go for the same. We would definitely suggest to experience it here at Ol Pejeta rather spending anywhere else. It’s the best from everywhere.

You really need to experience, to know how amazing the forest looks at night. Day game drives are very common where we see animals strolling around, it’s different fun altogether during the dark! While night safaris can be a little tricky and really needs patience & endurance. It gives an opportunity to spot some unusual sightings of nocturnal animals which are not easily seen at the daylight. Most of the animals are pro-active while they hunt at night which could be a rare sight.

We could spot pride of lions, herd of elephants, herd of cape buffalo, hyena and other nocturnal birds and animals and had one amazing night into the wild, spotting animals just with the help of a spotlight.

Meet black & last Northern White Rhinos at Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta is one of the unique destination in Kenya where we really experienced watching and interacting with the black and last white Rhinos from less than a meter distance.

Ol Pejeta is a home for more than 100 African two horned black Rhinos and the last remaining northern white Rhinos. It’s possible to see many black Rhinos during the game drives within the conservancy itself, however there are only last 2 northern white Rhinos left in the world, which are now only found at Ol Pejeta conservancy. Go meet those amazing creatures in real before they become history.  The Rhino sanctuary remain open from 7am- 7pm and its free for public access (entry charges includes in park fee itself).

Indulge yourself into the wonderful views of Mt Kenya while staying at a luxurious en-suite tented camps. Serena sweet waters gives an opportunity to see the wilds gazing near the water holes right outside the tent lying on the bed. It’s one of the outstanding tented camps located in the middle of a wildlife conservancy. We loved staying here the most among all our tented stays so far, and now it’s one of our favourite too.
