When beach vacation comes to mind, think of Mauritius!!

A perfect paradise to a getaway where palm trees lean over white sandy beaches. Either you think of a romantic honeymoon or family trip, you are definitely at the right place. From budget friendly stay to luxurious villas, Mauritius can satisfy with everything you need. We stepped into Mauritius in July and experienced few days of amazing winter sunbathe and sunrise to set. Honestly it was a great holiday escape for both of us. Yes go, explore to know what we have in our hearts but words are less to pen it all down.

Mauritius is a small island and Port Louis is the capital. This island perfectly blends into relaxation and luxury at its best. However this country is loaded with history, culture, art and heritage which is likely to fascinate you. It has a diversified population which is a mix of Indian, Chinese, French and African people. Not only the land but the marine life is filled with excitements and adventures. It’s perfect for swimming, surfing and to the best of scuba diving. Right from waterfalls, multi colored earth, beaches, mountains, volcanoes makes it a perfect landscape and you are bound to fall in love with this paradise. We wish to return back some day.

6 must visits in Mauritius:

Trou Aux Cerfs in Curepipe

It is a cone shaped volcano with a cone shaped crater on the other side. This volcano is not active now and even the crater can be only seen from a view point which is not accessible for tourist hikes.  

Chamarel 7 colored earth

This is one of the most attractive tourist destination. You might find this place relatively crowded in comparison to other spots. You need to hike through a lush green passage way to get the wonderful view of 7 color earth. The color combination are red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow. If its rainy you might not see the exact colors. Bright sunny day is recommended. This entire formation seems to be in a striped pattern layering which gives a colorful view from an observation outpost. We never saw anything like that before. You can also enjoy the scenic view of the waterfall.

Red Roof Church/Red Church

It’s also called the Cap Malheureux Church and is close to Port Louis. It is one of the most famous church in Mauritius with a perfect picturesque. The surroundings are quiet and is close to ocean bay. It is the most photogenic church in the island because of its bright red color roof with the turquoise water and deep blue sky at the backdrop.

Citadel Fort & Champ De Mars Race Course

Its located at a height of 100 mtrs above the sea level on the hill of Petite Montague. The view from the top has a stunning view of the harbor and the city of Port Louis. This fort is now converted into National monument and visitors are not allowed inside the main gate. If you don’t want to spend watching a horse race you can watch it for free from the citadel view point depending on the date and time when the race begins. We were lucky to see one!! Horse riding is a very popular sport and form of entertainment in Mauritius and attracts many racing fanatics from all over the island and even from abroad. It is the oldest race course club in the world which was inaugurated in 1812.

Port Louis Waterfront/Le Caudan

Le Caudan waterfront is an iconic shopping development in the city heart. It offers wide range of amusement facilities which has shops, chains of food joint, casinos, cinemas and lot more. The passageway is fully covered with hanged umbrellas which is pretty eye catchy and a photo friendly zone. This place also holds craft market inside which sells souvenirs , popular art and crafts.

SSR Botanical Garden or Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden

It is very famous and most beautiful lush green botanical garden in Port Louis we visited. This garden is famous for its giant Water Lilies and over 650 varieties of flora. It’s a picture perfect tourist spot and you will surely love exploring its surroundings.

Beaches you can explore in Mauritius

Turquoise  water, palm trees and a cocktail – sounds perfect right? The stretch of calm beaches by the talcum white sand here are worth visiting. You will find so many secret beaches unexplored which remains hidden between the coconut trees. Some of the beaches here are perfect for relaxation & adventure and exploring them aren’t that hard. Even getting around the island is relatively easy either by renting a scooter or car. The beaches here offers the best of marine experience and water sports and you can indulge yourself in discovering the colorful coral reefs and unique tropical aqua life.

Grand Bay

This coast can be a scenic one we would say. It’s not the best for any water activities or a swim because the coast remains too crowded with docked boats. But it’s a perfect place to spend the afternoon because the neighboring areas has some amazing bars and bites and is one of the buzz area so you can have some fun for sure

Trou Aux Beaches

It’s one of the best public beach in the North Coast of Mauritius. It’s an  ideal beach for snorkeling and swimming with clean water and the reef close to shore. It’s perfect to watch a splendid sunset.

Ile Aux Cerfs Island

This island lies in the Eastern Coast with white sandy beaches. Experience the turquoise lagoon and wide spread of restaurants, water sports and other local activities here. This island often remains crowded. Make sure to be careful while walking barefoot on this beach as it is home for living and dead sea urchins. From Ile Aux island you can also prefer G.R.S.E waterfall for which you need to pay extra.  

Belle Mare

It is a long stretched white sand beach to the East and has the most famous diving and water sport side. Here you can go for various aquatic activities like parasailing, sea walk and many more. You might find this place extremely crowded with tourist and may have to wait for some time for your turn. We had our best sea walk experience, it was amazing.

Flic en Flac

It is towards the West Coast of Mauritius and is like stepping back in time. This is a calm and shallow public beach and is one of the longest beach on the island. You can also find various facilities such as showers and public toilets and it also has food stalls parked. The night life is very vibrant in this area and you can binge on local foods. This place has not yet attracted a rowdy crowd so it’s quiet and beautiful to explore. Have fun!!

Mauritius is famous for sugar cane farming so don’t forget to bring back home the best quality brown sugar and local flavored liquors.
