How To Get To Lake Bunyonyi Uganda

We visited Lake Bunyonyi in our safari car from Bwindi Impenetrable forest which took us almost 2 hours to reach. However, you can also choose to drive directly from Kampala (capital of Uganda) which would take around 8-10 hrs. If you don’t feel like bridging such a long distance in one go, you can consider breaking the route with a multi-day stop in Lake Mburo National Park which is approximately 3-4hrs drive from Kampala.

What To Do In Lake Bunyonyi Uganda

Honestly nothing!! just sit back and relax.

We chose a perfect property overlooking Lake Bunyonyi and the adjacent hills. It looks like an alien destination with all the greenery around, but this place has something magical and was beyond our expectations. We were here for a night and really wished not to leave this place for some time. But throughout our stay time was filled with joy, love, kayaking drinking wine & doing nothing.

Fun activities at or on Lake Bunyonyi Uganda!

1. Kayaking / Canoeing on the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi is known for its clean water and after we checked-in, in no time we found ourselves paddling the canoe. It was incredible with the sunset happening at the background. Also we were informed there are no hippos here which are mostly found in lot of other lakes in Uganda and also you can swim safely there. However, we did not go for a swim but mostly we explored this lake with a canoe, which was difficult to manage at times because the of water current.

2. View the lake and islands from a higher vantage point

Now this is a must do. The real view of Lake Bunyonyi is amazing from any higher point. There are hills all around the lake and if you go high enough you have a beautiful view of the lake and the other small surrounding islands. We went to a beautiful location for the first rays of sunlight above a hill, there was fog when we reached but after sometime everything became visible turning it to be the best ever view.
