A perfect picnic site in tea plantations around Nairobi, Kenya for a day trip!!

During the pandemic situation all the international borders are under lock-down so it’s beyond imagination to travel to international locations under the circumstances. Also staying at home 24/7 was pretty much depressing for us and all off course. At times we even realized mental break down and hormonal imbalances. That’s why Riju & me decided to take some baby steps nearby and get some fresh air. We thought it might help us change our mood a bit and off course we shall feel better coping with the current situation. So after a bit of research we came to know about this place called the Tigoni Hills and Waterfalls. As we stay in Nairobi it was just a 45 min drive from our residence. The previous night we added some more research on how safe the place would be, the basic hygiene and so on. We soon realized that this place could be one of the best option so far and we can definitely explore without any hesitation.

It was a Saturday. The sun shine bright and clear. We started our journey around 10am in the morning. Also we packed some sandwich and snacks from home itself as we decided on a small picnic under the open sky. Sounds fun right? The GPS helped us to track the location and we crossed lush green tree gardens. Trust us guys in that moment we felt so amazing and the nature surrounding was just treat to our eyes. We stepped out after 4 months to be mentioned!!On our way we also stopped by the tea gardens for couple of minutes and really felt like appreciating the beauty around. There were many workers who were plucking  up the tea leaves and it was really fascinating to see how everything was put together for further consumption. After the short stop we again proceeded towards our final destination and arrived in less than 30mins.

After reaching the gate we had to pay some entry fee(Adult: 400 KES). After done with all the formalities we were advised that it was a hike for 20mins to reach the waterfall. To our surprise there were hardly any people around when we entered and the place was left to ourselves. Honestly we felt more safe and secure. Also for this day out we invited two of our friends who loved to join us and the fun was even more. So we all started the hike trail which was carpeted with dried leaves and tall trees around. After so long we could here birds chirping and butterflies flying around, and we actually don’t know why everything seemed so magical that day. Maybe it’s because we don’t take out enough time to appreciate simple things in our life and surprisingly this lock-down period made us think differently. What do you think?

In less than 20mins of our hike we could finally hear the waterfall while approaching. We realized these places around Nairobi were not much explored and in that hour we were the only one standing right in front of that beautiful waterfall, it’s green surroundings and blue sky. We also carried some tea and we really enjoyed sipping a hot cup there, we clicked hundreds of picture and it was so much fun after long!! The overall place was huge and was so green and beautiful. The green tea fields stretched till the horizon and we spot several small houses which really drew our attention. After the uphill hike we sat on the grass we thought of snacking accompanied by our chitchats. Riju and Tanush(our friends’ son) did not miss a chance to play soccer and racket games under the bright sky, and all of us were really emotional and happy with that little exposure.

We all decided to spend the entire day there doing nothing and just being lazy watching the sun going down turning the Nairobi sky orange to pink to green. By 5 in the evening we winded up crossing the tea gardens on both sides. The drive was chilly and was so peaceful. This is how we all spent a beautiful yer memorable day together.

If you are visiting Nairobi we would definitely suggest you all to please go and check this unexplored place with your friends and family and spend some quality time. Trust us you won’t regret those time.
